Dr. Kirkpatrick graduated from Harvard University in 1977 and from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1982. He completed his training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and additional training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He has been practicing hand surgery in the Greater Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr area since 1988.

Dr. Kirkpatrick is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College, and is involved with the education of orthopaedic residents and medical students. Dr. Kirkpatrick is certified in orthopaedic surgery as well as having additional certification in hand surgery. He has published extensively in the field of hand surgery, and has been recognized as one of the areas "Top Doctors" in hand surgery.

Dr. Kirkpatrick has focused his practice to the treatment and rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity, including arthroscopy and microsurgery. He works closely with an on-site hand therapy service to provide optimum care and convenience to his patients.
